The ‘adult’ playground

Prostitution suites, slot machines, pool, bar, tennis courts

A large-scale structure that spans over Sydney Central Railway Station as an ‘adult playground’ providing everyday leisures at a place known to many as a central hub.

Extending on the idea of the ‘scale(ar)’, numerous mappings were produced on varying scales. Mappings of world connections, Australia, New South Wales, and Sydney, each defining a proximity that investigated the different types of assemblages on different scales.

The notion of ‘polarisation’ arose, despite the intricacy of multiple scales in forming a substantially coherent microcosm, there was still a definitive border that set apart all relations.

Sydney Central Station is a large-scale site that channels all the complex relations that enter, as it is not limited to people of a certain race, religion, gender, or socio-economic background. The station became the central hub of this design as this study into the ‘scale(ar)’ is a speculative and somewhat satirical analysis of one’s interpretation of the role of scale and its capability in defining individuals.

The design works with the idea that the participants would swipe their Opal card on the raised platform. From there they can pull the lever at the ‘slot machine’ where a number will appear on the red screen. The number is the room to their prostitute. They are given no control over the prostitute they will receive – breaking the boundaries of socio-economic prostitution standards.
